Dharavi slum tour:On our tours, you will see why Dharavi is the heart of small scale industries in Mumbai (annual turnover is approximately US$ 665 million). We show you a wide range of these activities- from recycling, the making of clay pots, embroidery, bakery, soap factory, leather tanning, papad (poppadom) making and many others, most of which take place in very small spaces. Dharavi in Mumbai may be the largest slum in Asia, but it's far from a depressing place. It's blessed with a strong community spirit and is thriving with small scale industry. One of the biggest tasks performed there is the recycling of trash. 40% of Mumbai's waste, which is gathered by ragpickers (those who rummage through trash from the city's wastelands), gets recycled at Dharavi. The efforts of these ragpickers is actually being recognized by a day long fair, called the Dharavi Festival, to be held at Mahim Nature Park on March 29, 2009. Mumbai Airport Information:
The international and domestic terminals at Mumbai Chattrapathi Shivaji Airport are separately located in different suburbs. The international terminal is in Andheri East while the domestic terminal is in Santa Cruz, 30 kilometers (19 miles) and kilometers 24 (15 miles) north of the city respectively. A shuttle bus transfers passengers between the terminals. Travel time to the city center is around one and a half hours, but is much less early in the morning or late at night when traffic is lighter. The easiest way to get there is by taking a prepaid taxi.
